Are you holding the control handles down? You have to hold them down, then press the button while holding one or both of them.  Then release the button when it starts.

Hi Rob H. Thank you for your question. Ensure your battery is fully charged and installed into the unit by hearing it audibly click into position. From there you want to press and hold down the button while you pull the levers up to power the unit. Please check out the following video for a better visual, around the 4 minutes mark.
