It's not being done online, you can shut of your internet connection and work on the desktop (as long as you check to see any updates have been installed). Then you are working off line. You can print and mail with a check if you like but most states like it if you send the final tax files online. You save yourself a PDF of the forms uploaded to the Feds, State and City. It may vary by state, but you always have the option to print and mail your return. Of course you get your refund if any quicker by giving your checking acc number and you can pay that way too. They help set you up to pay any e.g. self-employed estimated taxes for next year quarterly. You can print out the quarterly payment slips and mail with a check if that works best for you or pay online on the IRS site.
