This game can be played alone, offline, or online with friends. B1ut not 2 players on the same console. I hope this helps.

It has a story mode and a skirmish mode where you have many sets of rules to determine the winner. Not sure about the friend beside you as I haven't done that yet, but I'm sure it does. I don't see why not it does everything else. Check the package to see if it says more than one players. It says 1 thru something. That's usually an indication. But great game. Well worth it if you like commanding armies of troops and vehicles.
