No you don't purchase anything else in order to have this television work, however internet is needed to operate the apps on this television. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You will need an internet source or WiFi. You could use an HD antenna instead but the setup for it on this TV is not ideal. I could never figure out how to rescan for stations. Manufacturer's Tech Support is only available on weekdays. I ended up downloading some HD scanning apps so I could get local HD.
