You might need to enter the full channel, like 4-1 or 4-2. That's what I need to do with regular broadcast TV (I don't have cable).

Please try again later.I set my TV to 3 and use AV1 HDMI port on TV and use cable from my DIRECTV box and change channels through my direct TV remote......I believe you would have to change channels by whatever cable box you have, not necessarily the TV itself. You might want to refer to the owners manual to help. One has to switch to TV input, and then press "4", then "-" and "1" to switch to channel 4. The problem is the manual did not say anything about this. I figured out myself. I wish the design could be changed to conventional way of channel switch.
