Mounting over a fireplace is a common scenario, and one of the worst decisions you can make. Reasons: 1) The heat will cause premature degradation of the screen, speakers, and most other components. 2) When the TV is off, there will be a big black rectangle over the fireplace. That’s just bad design practice. 3) When the TV is on, and the fireplace is lit, viewers eyes are exposed to high levels of IR light. Very stressful on the eyes.
