Yes there are parental controls. You can set downtime that will shut the device's controls off at certain schedules. Also you can set the music apps to filter explicit songs and content.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.My 2 yr old grandchild uses the one in her household to play music and get told jokes. They are always clean and wholesome jokes. She laughs even if she doesn't understand why they are funny. As to will the music/songs requested be appropriate for your kids, I am not sure. The time, alarm, weather, games etc are family appropriate. Not sure about parental controls? or what your needs are. I recommend asking a Best Buy employee they are generally very knowledgable about the capabilities of the products they sell.
