Can I use hotspot or does it have to be wifi ? null

You use the Google home app to set up. It searches for wifi and you enter the password on home app then it mini connects.

I believe they recommend the Wi-Fi, but I would try a hotspot as well.

As long as it has access to the internet, then your good to go.

The google home connects to whatever wifi connection your phone is connected to. I did not enter my wifi password with my google home, it just linked to my phone and my phone shared that information. With that said I would recommend a solid wifi connection for better results... a hotspot isn't as reliable and you'll probably run into issues over time.
