• this can only be hooked up to wifi. The only thing you use your cell phone for is to set up and manage preferences through the google home app.

• The Google Home itself connects to WiFi for its connection. You use the app to set it up and for managing connected devices. Other than that you just use the voice commands. But you do have to use the app to set it up.
