It does not talk directly to Sonos. Which is weird given that Google Play Music works with Sonos.

The Google Home unit is not supported by Sonos equipment natively. If you have a Sonos base unit with RCA inputs on the back you should be able to use a Chromecast Audio unit with an RCA splitter wire to plug into the base unit. I haven't tried this yet but theoretically you should then be able to then use Google Homevoice command to play music over your Sonos system.

It works when connected to your WiFi network and its also how it communicates with other stuff in your network.

Not sure, all goes through google cast, haven't been able to hook up to my Sony wifi sound bar system as of yet, still researching
