It should be able to bind with the iPod touch. You have to look for the Google Home app in the app store. If there is one for the iPod touch, you're fine.

However it will not turn your TV on. Example: Hey Google. Beeps. Play "Lost" on the Family room. (tv is a Vizio 60" cast built-in). Response: Ok. Playing Lost from Netflix on the Family Room: what it happens is The TV turns on opens Netflix up, bottom of the screen saying something like ": Loading "Lost" S1E1 (season 1 episode 1) or whatever you stop playing at. Now as per requirements of Wi-Fi. Is very clear and specific that the router MUST have 5Ghz band. Again PC and laptos do not work. And you only need the APP for configuration of the device and adding devices (my case Lights, electric switches thermostat Nest and TVs Summary: Use your ipod touch and download the iOS app it should be OK

To be honest the phone isn't really needed as much unless you start installing Phillips hue or smart locks. These require initial set up from your device and than linking to your google home. Again the iPod touch may work for these.
