Steer ability is extremely easy. Wish other vacuums were this easy

Not sure what you mean by safe but the brush and face stay flush with the carpet like a regular vacuum. Only difference is the handle and canister can fold down and pivot making it real easy to manuever in tight spots and get under furniture. I also have the earlier model of the Hoover with conventional single degree of movement. The steerable version is real easy to use and you get done faster because you don't have to stop and move as many things.
