Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It will pick up loose dirt and items to a certain degree, including hair - but please understand this is a carpet scrubber not a vacuum cleaner. How dry? That depends on the user - I have seen people use mine that keep their finger on the squirter the whole time and soaking the carpet and do not slowly run the cleaner and suck up all the excess water. Used correctly it should be dry in several hours depending on climate conditions. I have been using mine (two Hoover scrubbers - the last one purchased in May 2015) for over 22 years. They definitely work if used as directed.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The suction is as wide as the cleaner head. If you go back over the area a few times after wetting, it does a good job of pulling it out of the carpet. I have not tried it on shag-just standard carpet.
