Deb: I believe the Hoover unit is on par with the others in its price range, maybe even superior. I think you might be referencing products that used to be made in the United States, possibly 30 or so years ago. Those products and Hoover's were built to last and last. If you had a small problem with the product after years of use, say the switch broke, you brought it to a repair place, fixed it, and kept on using it. I'm sorry to say those days are gone, as will be the repair company you refered to. You see in order to stay in line with the competition companies including Hoover have to keep their price competitive. The average American buyer does not understand true value in paying for quality they only purchase on price. Don't expect as much from products today compared to in the past. You won't even find a manufacturer making a vacuum that will last say ten years, it's price would make it uncompetitive. So I would have to say, throw that five year old plus vacuum in the garbage to be added to the landfill, go and buy another one and another one. It's sad but true.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Nothing lasts forever. I've never had a problem with a switch. Belts can wear or break, especially if misused. . . You want to check the features on the vacuum. If you can't turn off the floor beater brush as on the cheaper wind tunnel 2 vacuum, you don't want it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Dunno vacuum weight. Read manufacturer specifications. Srill bumming on 8 year old vac? Heave it out into street. Vacs, tv's, toasters, microwaves, pets, planets are disposable now. Get a new one and have no expectations.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I love my Hoover Wind Tunnel. I have had it for 8 months now. It is lightweight and easy to handle, but it does a heavy duty job on the floors. mine has the retracting cord, and I love it!!!!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Well I am not surprised My son paid $50 dollars in Chicago to have a 4 dollar switch on their washing machine replaced in 10 minutes. The warranty is 2 years and I did not buy an extension, as if breaks here in Brazil, fix it here myself or trash it. At the price of about $4 dollars a month (if last 2 years) I consider it cheap for what it does. It is high amperage so that is rough on any switch. You say fixed it in 2007, so 6 years is a long time. I always replaced belts about every 2 years, simple do-it-yourself and buy them at any hardware or department store.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've had it about one month and have noy had any problems with it so far. It seems light and is easy to carry. BobG

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The on/off button sucks its in the worst position in the middle back hidden right?? Anyways I've only had this one for two months and works well for what it's worth ($100) . I had a Dyson before so this is probably 2x heavier and bulky. But gets the job done
