The electronic ignition does require the range to be plugged into an electrical outlet. However, in power outages, the cooktop burners can be lit with a match and extreme caution. Full instructions are found on page 7 of the manual. Find the manual at Hotpoint's website and search the model number, RGAS200DMWW.
