• It will print black & white if the printer is hooked up to a compatible computer that you can chose to print in black & white or color. Does not matter if you buy with paper, the printer only prints 4x6 & 5x7 photos. If you print in color, you do not need a computer.

• While you can always print "black" with a color cartridge, it is the expensive way to do it. The cartridge mixes colors together to form black. Black ink is must cheaper.
