“Is the backlit keyboard supposed to stay lit or is it supposed to go off after 30 seconds? Is there a way to make it stay lit? Our's will come back on after pushing any key but our other lap top stays on.”

With this particular model, you should be able to make the keyboard stay lit by holding down the "Fn" key at the bottom left of the keyboard and pressing the "F5" key.
