• I wouldn't- the machine would run at the slower rate anyway. The ram speed isn't just the RAM itself, its the chip slot that its connected to.

• You should be able to do that without problems. However, some of the internal configuration settings will probably need to be changed, so I'd really suggest having the Geek Squad at your local Best Buy do the work.
