Hi Geri! Thanks for your questions. Today most laptops do not come with Optical Drives because Music, Movies, Software, and games are all available online to download or stream. It also adds weight to the laptop. You can use an external DVD drive with this laptop. 8GB of memory is now considered the "sweet spot" where you can run almost any software and do heavy multi-tasking with a laptop.
