“Just purchased this for my wife. Tried several types of wireless mice (?) and each of them will often lag and jump as you move it across the screen. Really, already? Is there something I can do to stop this, outside of using a wired mouse?”

If the batteries in the mice are fresh, then you'll really need to contact the HP support team so they can troubleshoot it in real time.
