Hello and thank you for asking. The USB ports on the HP 17-cp3005dx laptop do not support a data transfer rate fast enough for video. That cannot be changed, short of a new laptop. HDMI does not support dual monitors, so you can add only one externnal monitor by using the HDMI port.

You should have done your homework about this beforehand, but since it['s only been a week, just bring it back to Best Buy, explain your situation, and ask to exchange it for another laptop that DOES support two external monitors.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.P.S.: You are INCORRECT about the HDMI output. It can be any of the four choices of ANY video output: duplicate, extend, only, or instead of. Duplicate might be the default if you don't specify. To specify, hit these keys simultaneously: WIN+P. This opens a menu with the four choices.
