Whitelisting certain components is a long standing practice of HP. It's why I would never buy an HP system, be it Laptop or Desktop. Too many good, and more flexible systems out there.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This model only has one antenna so the options are limited which is why it does not have a dual band chip in it. Plus if you changed out the wifi chip in it the bios may not even see it as HP does whitelisting of parts in the bios. Things like the HDD and ram can be upgraded fine but for some reason they whitelist wifi chips. So in that regard a USB wifi adapter with dual band would be best here.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This isn't an upgrade we would recommend unless you feel extremely comfortable with taking apart and working on laptops. We have other laptops that come with dual band WiFi and might suit your needs better.
