• The keyboard backlight can be turned on or off using the Alt-Bright key combination. It has several levels of brightness that it cycles through with each press of the Bright key (the same key used to increase screen brightness, but combined with Alt to control the backlighting).

• The backlight is activated based on usage of trackpad or keyboard. It times out if there is no use of either, but comes on as soon as either are used.

• The backlight goes off after a minute or so of no user input (keyboard, touchpad, or mouse if you use one). It's reported that Chrome OS generally uses the ALT key in combination with the screen brightness keys to lower or raise the brightness of a keyboard backlight, but I haven't tried it.

• It turns on and off automatically, lights come on when you use the keyboard. There is no brightness setting for keyboard backlighting.
