Yes you only have to buy one at a time I’ve teplaced the black once in 18 months & still have plenty of color.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The LaserJet models that use the HP 202 toner cartridges do have a feature that allow printing in just black if a color toner cartridge is empty. You will be prompted before printing to replace the empty cartridge, but this does not prohibit you from printing.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I recently realized that my printer needs both cartridges installed to print. Just kept prompting an error message stating that one was missing and there was no way to bypass it. Not sure if other models are different.
