Wifi is nothing more than waves floating through the air, with a range of about 150 feet (note that 5G travels a short distance). The closer the PC is to the wifi station, the better. Waves may bounce off of walls or have trouble due to structural components in the home. I've found that a router situated high up (on top of a bookcase, for example) works well with a wifi extender.
