From some info my son texted, the 3.0 ports work with the 3.0 USB plugs that are designed to transfer data faster than the 2.0 plugs and ports. I understand that you can use 2.0 plugs in 3.0 ports, but the data transfer will not be the faster speed, but that of the 2.0 plug/port. I think the same would apply if you used a 3.0 plug in a 2.0 port—it would only transfer data at the 2.0 slower speed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.USB 2.0 offers a transfer rate of about 480 Mbps, whereas USB 3.0 offers a transfer rate of about 4,800 Mbps which is equal to about 5 GB. This super-fast transfer speed of USB 3.0 can be especially useful when backing up or transferring large amounts of data.
