• The LaserJet models that use the HP 410 toner cartridges do have a feature that allow printing in just black if a color toner cartridge is empty. You will be prompted before printing to replace the empty cartridge, but this does not prohibit you from printing.

• I can use the printer with just black ink. In my settings, I set preferences to print black/grey scale only. But you will always be reminded if you are out of one color. You can even tell it to print color without using the color that you are out of.
