• If I'm not mistaken, the XL denotes a high yield cartridge.

• It contains more ink. I think it's like you get 3 to every one page like with the regular cartridge.

• The HP61 has a page yield* of 190 pages while the HP61XL has a page yield* of 480 pages.

• I have bought XL before for my HP ENVY printer and it just lasts longer, or has a little more ink in the cartridge than the standard cartridge.

• HP 61X has more ink, therefore yeilds more pages per cartridge. I also have a HP 3050, love this printer, three years old and going strong.

• Great question. The HP 61 is the standard yield cartridges and the HP 61 XL are the high yield cartridges. Here are the page yields for each cartridge: HP 61 black: ~190 pages HP 61 color: ~165 pages HP 61XL black: ~480 pages HP 61 XL color: ~330 pages I hope this helps!
