I looked it up for you and your printer takes HP 951 for color and HP 950 for black.

The box the cartridge comes in specifically say it WILL fit the 8610. Have you taken a color out that does fit and compared it to the refill that you think is a 950xl to make sure you are putting them in the same way. I don't have an 8610 so I can't tell from my point.

The 950XL cartridge absolutely should fit in the slot for the black cartridge, but it won't fit in the others. If you're still having problems, you'll need to contact the HP support team
