This laptop is a great model for High School or College level students due to it's speed, large memory and RAM allowing for more software updates, and other available features such as an HDMI output, multiple flash drive ports, bluetooth, a backlit keyboard, CD drive, etc. However I wouldn't recommend it for children of ages 12 and 7. While it's great for homework. I I would recommend a different laptop that costs less and still has the large amount of memory. You really don't need all the extra features, which is what puts the price up higher. Really you could probably get away with a laptop with 500 to 750 GB or available memory, 4 to 6 GB RAM, a CD Drive, 2 Flashdrive ports, and Not a touch screen. That will significantly lower the price. Not to mention this computer has an advanced sound system that can be altered using a Beats Program. This also increases the price and you honestly wouldn't need it. If you don't need a CD Drive. A HP Chromebook 14 would be wonderful. It's still fast and has all the basic features you need to do what you will be using it for for significantly less. They're around $190 and they're light which is great for transport in case you want to go elsewhere to do work. Personally, the best simple yet advanced and best learning tool laptop would be the Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series Non-Touch which is about $450. It has great resolution, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB memory, a CD drive, 2 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 (USB 3.0 ports transfer files more quickly), along with an easy to use keyboard and mousepad. Only downside I ever experienced was the mousepad had a loud clicking sound. That laptop now belongs to my younger sister who is going into middle school.
