How do i make this printer scan null

Do you need the app is it the only way to scan

Put the paper in the printer and hit the scanner button on the left side of the machine. There is a color scanner button and a black and white one.

You will need the HP Smart App to use the scanning feature on the DeskJet 2734e printer. The app is free and accessible with a mobile device or computer. Once downloaded you will use the "printer scan" icon.
