It will still print but you have to select black and white and opt out of color. My Best advice is to get the HP unlimited ink. It’s well worth it and you come out ahead. And you can stop anytime you want.

Thank you for the question. Yes, the DeskJet 2734e uses two cartridges, and when the color cartridge is empty, you can remove it to invoke single-cartridge mode and print only in black.
