The front panel appears to have an opening for a CD/DVD but it is only decorative on this model. There is no internal mounting bay to receive a CD unit. My guess is that the case is generic and used among different models that probably can mount a CD. I am using an external CD/DVD that connects via USB port and is working out nicely.

I don’t know if HP has any recommendations for CD/DVD burner. I used once only external CD/DVD drive.

No, there's no retrofit for internally mounting a CD/DVD drive in the computer.
