“Compare please the Envy 17.3 against the IPad 12.9 Both are above my reach and are out of my wheelhouse. I am hoping to bring myself up to speed by use. Any useful comments would be helpful. Thanks.”

These products are very different. The Envy 17.3 is a full featured Windows 10 laptop. The ipad Pro 12.9 is a high end tablet running ipad os. The ipad pro can use a stylus, this model of Envy laptop cannot. The Envy 17.3" weighs about 6 lb and the iPad weighs 1.41 lb. They are not very comparable.
