One of the Human Interface Devices (HID) was corrupt. It wasn't the touchscreen one, but rather was a generically-named one. I took the machine to BB and they did a simple deactivate, uninstall and the driver popped back up and then the HID-compliant touch screen driver appeared and worked! Thanks goodness for the Geek Squad!
