• Hello. Generally, for most uses, 8gb of RAM would be adequate. But it is a best practice to check the app/program creator's minimum and/or recommended hardware specifications before installing and using such apps to ensure you have enough RAM to handle the app/program you plan to use.

• Generally speaking, 8GB of RAM should give you enough power to do just about everything shy of massive data rendering, which would be large gaming files or downloading movies. I use my laptop for school work and streaming movies and shows. I have never needed to add more memory. If you find that you do need to upgrade, it's not too expensive to add additional ram or memory, around $100 depending on the brand and how much you need.
