Monitor at straight vertical requires 18 inches of clearance,. At furthest tilt (top of monitor pushed backwards) requires 17 inches.

From top of the screen to the bottom of the base. the screen only moves as a tilt movement. tilts down and can tilt back slightly. It dose not go up and down. I think my old one did use to go up and down, but the new model will not. so it only needs 18 inches of space. I measured it and the exact height sits ( "one line under" ) the 18 inch mark.
