• Mic does NOT work unless camera is UP

• On the top of the screen bezel there is a rectangular cutout that if you press down, the webcam and mic will pop up. I think the mic does work even if it's down but not sure. Once it's popped up, you should be able to use webcam software successfully. Nice security feature since you should be covering your cam when not in use.

• You should be able to open the camera app, or to use any recording/chatting service like Skype, which will prompt you to optimize the webcam and microphone.
