• Thank you for the question. The Smart App is not mandatory, and you will not have to use WIFI for the life of the printer, but you will lose certain features of the Smart App (such as Print From Anywhere). You can download the full feature printer software to your computer for assistance/shortcuts for scanning and copying, (as well as the HP Smart App on your desktop to monitor ink levels). If you enroll in HP+ including Instant Ink, your printer does need to stay on and connected to the internet, but it does not have to be on WIFI.
