“I want to use this as a scanner only, like I use my current HP OfficeJet J5700 whose ink was used up years ago, but it still lets me scan documents. Will this printer still scan when the cartridges are dry?”

• Yes I believe you can scan without ink cartridges if you install the full feature HP software on the OfficeJet 3830.
