“Will this printer print in black if the color cartridges are out? And are color cartridges individual or all one cartridge? I was told all new HP printers now will still print in black if the color cartridges are low/empty. Is this true? And is it true for this one?”

Good question. Yes, this printer has single cartridge mode where you can use just one cartridge to print if one cartridge is out of ink. You have to remove the empty cartridge in order for single cartridge mode to work. This printer has 1 black cartridge and 1 tricolor cartridge. I hope this helps.
