The HP "XL" cartridges are supposed to produce at least twice the amount of printed items than the regular "non-XL" cartridges.

The 940 XL is generally a little less expensive than buying two of the standard size cartridges so you save a few dollars and don't have to change them as often.

On my cartridges, the XL gives you more ink and pages for less cost than the smaller cartridge. The XL cartridges are well worth the money.
