Typically it's easiest to do your HP Smart setup with a Wi-Fi connection. If you do opt into HP+ for the free trial of Instant Ink or the additional year to the warranty, it will need to remain connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet for regular security and firmware updates.
