“Hi Im considering this laptop to replace my Pavillion i7 from about 4 or 5 years ago Will the screen sharpness and brightness be as good or better? Im concerened about the screen resolution but do NO GAMING - just office documents and tv shows”

Thank you for the question about the Pavilion 15-EG0079NR laptop. The 1920 x 1080full HD touch display is Brightview, 250 nits. By most standards, that's fairly bright, even when working outdoors.
