It's highly unlikely that the HDD was forgotten. When you look at "This PC" in your computer File Explorer you should see a C drive (the SSD) and a D drive (the HDD). It won't show 1TB free because files are stored on the HDD, but you will see that the full capacity is close to 1TB.
