There are many factors that are involved when doing online chats of any sort. As far taking pictures or video, this camera is fine. If you are online, it will also depend on the internet connection between you and the other people, the specs of the machines, the program that you are using, and other background programs that could be running at the same time. You will also want to look at the system requirements from the developer's site for the program you use. In a case like this, I would recommend talking to a Best Buy associate and giving details that you can such as your internet speeds, router setup and let them know which program you will be using to make sure you have a setup to meet your needs.
