It has external switches for the fans. I don't need to, but I keep them on high all the time. In a dead-quiet room, it's a gentle white noise.

Can't hear it if you move more than 7 feet away from it or behind a door or if you wear earbuds.

The fans are noisy but well worth it in my opinion.
