Obviously, it's got less memory, but if you google the GTX 1060 3GB card, you'll find that the GPU chip also has less horsepower than the 6GB version. It's a money vs. performance tradeoff. You'll have to read the reviews and benchmarks and decide for yourself....
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The amount of RAM or more specifically, VRAM that is dedicated to the individual graphics card. 8 > 3. 1060 3gb isn't a bad card though.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 8 GB cards are either a GTX 1070, a GTX 1080, or an AMD 480 series card. There is a 6 GB version of the GTX 1060 that in addition to the extra memory doesn't have a few parts of it disabled like the 3 GB version does. But in real world terms of playing games it's only a few percent faster than it. If you game with v-sync (though nVidia's optional adaptive v-sync is even better) on at 1080p then you might not ever see a difference between them in most games. The GTX 1070 is for playing games at higher resolutions than the GTX 1060. Roughly speaking, when playing the newest AAA games (like Rise of the Tomb Raider), the GTX 1060 works very well at 1920 x 1080, while the GTX 1070 works very well at 2560 x 1440. The GTX 1080 is about 20 to 25 percent faster than the GTX 1080, so it can play some AAA titles pretty well at 3840 x 2160. The AMD RX 480 competes with the GTX 1060. I'm speaking in rough terms, as it depends on the games you play. there is a 4 GB version of the RX 480 that is a tad slower than the 8 GB one. All of these cards are wicked fast on slightly older games, or titles that aren't pushing the bleeding edge of graphics technology, and can be played at a higher resolution in these games than that I mentioned above for the newest AAA titles. And even with today's most demanding AAA titles the GTX 1060 can work fine at higher resolutions like 2560 x 1440 as long as you're OK with performance that's below the 60 fps mark. The CPU of this system doesn't break a sweat even when playing the most demanding of games. It should be overkill for years and years to come.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is just more video memory. 8gm is only needed for rare games today. I cannot name one. It is good to have for future games that may required those specs. Today 3gm is more than enough to play any game smoothly.
