Both wall plug and batteries. If the electricity goes out, the batteries keep the clock running.

Wall plug only. It has a small internal battery but that is only for back up alarming in case of power loss for some time (I am thinking the alarming capability may survive only a few mins of power loss) . It cannot power the entire device for rest of the functions.
