“When the record is finished playing does the needle go back to orignal place automatically or you have to do it manually I bought another model and had to return as you had to manually stop it when finished playing a record”

No - it does not go back automatically. The needle arm is manual. There is a lever you are to use to lift it and set it down with (does it slowly and to protect the needle). So far seems to be a pretty good all in one record player. The display lights can be turned on/off as well.
